Award Books
Mark Twain (4th/5th)
Shoal Creek students in 4th and 5th Grade have the opportunity to read books from a list of nominated Mark Twain titles. When finished with a book, they can take online quizzes to earn rewards throughout the school year. Missouri students can then vote for their favorite titles. The Mark Twain Award is given to the winning book/author by the Missouri Association of School Librarians. These titles can be checked out in our library, at the Mid-Continent Public Libraries, and on Sora, the Student Reading App.

- During School Year, all quizzes must be taken in the SC LMC. Ask a librarian if you need help.
- Be honest. Have you read/listened to the entire book? If so, tap the book cover below to take the quiz.
- You CAN use the book during the quiz.
- Each time you login, it counts as 1 try. You get 2 tries for each book. Passing requires, at least, 4 out of 5.

Denny O'Neil (3rd-5th)
Shoal Creek students in 3rd thru 5th Grade have the opportunity to read books from the Denny O'Neil Graphic Novel List. This list is named in honor of legendary comic book writer, Denny O'Neil. Mr. O'Neil was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1939 and worked for the biggest names in comics where he developed iconic storylines that carry on today. When finished with a book, students can take online quizzes to earn rewards throughout the school year. These titles can be checked out in our library, at the Mid-Continent Public Libraries, and on Sora, the Student Reading App.

GKCRead (3rd)

The Great Kids Can Read Award is given to the winning book/author by the Greater Kansas City Association of School Librarians. These titles can be checked out in our library, at the Mid-Continent Public Libraries, and on Sora, the Student Reading App.

Show Me (1st/2nd)
Throughout the school year, the Library Media Specialists at Shoal Creek will read all the Show Me nominees to their 1st and 2nd Grade classes, and then students will vote for their favorites. Building Block (K)
Throughout the school year, the Library Media Specialists at Shoal Creek will read all the Building Block nominees to their Kindergarten classes, and students will then vote for their favorites. The Missouri Building Block Picture Book Award is given to the winning book/author by the Children's Services Round Table of the Missouri Library Association.
